IB History at Avondale

In efforts to raise the standards for education and prepare Avondale’s students for the 21st century, the union between Avondale Elementary School and IBO began in 2003. We were authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in December of 2007.  Avondale Elementary School was the first school in DeKalb County, and the thirteenth school in the state of Georgia to be authorized with the prestigious distinction of being named an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme School. This program is offered from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade and is experienced by all students.

Avondale’s mission is to provide students with authentic real-world experiences that challenge them to be caring communicators, collaborators, and critical thinkers with local, national, and global awareness acquired through inquiry and problem-based learning.

The Primary Years Programme is a challenging program that demands the best from both motivated students and teachers. This program aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people that will be able to create a better and more peaceful world, through intercultural understanding and respect.
