Providing Counseling services for 5th grade, 3rd grade and Pre-K. In my role as Professional School Counselor at Avondale Elementary School, I work collaboratively with Mrs. Ross to design and deliver a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes student achievement and focuses on academic, career, and social/emotional curriculum that is delivered through classroom lessons, small group, and individual consultation ensuring our students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.
Our counseling services guide students through three parallel paths that lead to one destination: success. rather than providing a service just to students who need them, managing a comprehensive program for "all" students.
My responsibilities include coordinating the 2019-2020 Attendance Initiative. We have adopted the Attendance Works "Attendance Matters Campaign." Our efforts include, decreasing the number of missed school days and tardiness to school by increasing and improving overall schoolwide attendance. Our plan to accomplish this effort includes recognizing and celebrating individual "perfect attendance" and "100% class attendance" each month along with daily after school announcements recognizing classes with 100% attendance. Our attendance slogn is, "IN SCHOOL ON TIME EVERY DAY READY TO LEARN." "EVERY STUDENT, EVERY SEAT, EVERY DAY."
In addition, the counseling program at Avondale Elementary School provides career related education which includes the state mandated 5th grade "Career Project." All 5th grade students are required to research and complete a "Career Project." Schoolwide, we structure our Career Related Education so there are age appropriate experiences that allow our students to begin to explore careers and to begin thinking about what they might want to be when they grow up. In the Spring, we host a "Career Day." We are fortunate to have community members and local businesses who volunteer their time to support our "Career Day" by serving as presenters.
I'm excited about working with the administration, staff, our students, their families and community stakeholders toward reaching our school's goals. I look forward to a successful school year!
