View Avondale Elementary

Welcome to Avondale Elementary, an IB PYP school. I am looking forward to a very exciting and rewarding school year. I am happy to serve as your principal for a third year. Since my tenure at Avondale Elementary, we have made a lot of progress toward improving school climate and increasing community and parental engagement. Therefore, I will continue to build on that momentum to provide our IB scholars the very best environment that they deserve to achieve academic success.

I am dedicated to ensuring that we nurture our students in a learning environment that is fun, exciting, relevant, and rigorous. Furthermore, I am committed to the International Baccalaureate mission statement, which is to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

I firmly believe that a strong home and school partnership, along with consistent communications, will help our students achieve in a safe and positive school environment. Therefore, I encourage every parent to become involved and serve at some capacity. At the very minimum, every parent should be a PTA member, should communicate weekly with their child’s teacher, should reinforce the importance of education with their child, and should participate in school functions. Finally, parents should commit to serving 10 volunteer hours each year.

Studies have shown that the most successful schools have strong parental engagement. Thanks to the help of our PTA, parental engagement has grown, but we can do much better! This year our goal is to have parental involvement increase by 30 percent from last year. Let us work to achieve this goal. Together we can make Avondale Elementary an exceptional school!

Thank you for your continued support as we look toward a bright and promising year for our children.

Yours truly,

Dr. Dontae Andrews
